Which outdoor fountain should I buy? So many choices... | Nothing is more relaxing than lounging in your back yard with the pleasant sound of running water in the background. It seems like time stands still (at least until the neighbor next door starts his lawn mower or your significant other reminds of an undone chore). Outdoor water fountains come in all shapes, sizes and materials. Some are powered by electricity and others are solar and powered by the sun. They can be made of brass, copper, stone, cast concrete, or even plastic and fiberglass. |
The first thing you'll want to consider when buying a new outdoor fountain is the placement. Where you put you fountain is, in a very large way, will determine the practical limits for the dimensions of the fountain you get. If you have a large courtyard, with 360 degree access to all sides, measure from the center to the closest edge. Depending on what surrounds your outdoor fountain, for example a garden bench, arbor or shrubs, you'll want to leave yourself at least 32" of space between the edge of the border and the outside edge of your fountain. If you double the distance from that point to the center point you started with, you'll be able to determine the overall maximum (practical) width of the fountains for which you're shopping. | |
