Garden Bird Baths Considering a bird bath to entice our feathered friends? Birds generally only need a couple of inches of clean water to bath in regardless of their size, because birds do not really immerse themselves completely when bathing. You'll want to make sure to set your bird bath up where it will be safe for birds to come around that is both predator (i.e. cats) and mosquito free. The safer birds feel, the more likely they are to come around and spend time with you in your backyard paradise. | |
 | Many birds have poor depth perception and have difficulty judging the depth of the water. Therfore, if the water is too deep, they'll be too scared to venture out to bath. At that point, it's more than likely the birds will get no closer than the edge of the water and only to get a drink. Birds are also a little skttish when it comes to wide open areas. You may want to think about placing your bird bath near some low hanging tree branches. If you don't have a tree nearby or large enough, think about adding an arbor or wooden trellis as a backdrop to your bird bath. The whole point is that by providing a place where the birds feel safe that they can escape potential predators quickly, they are apt to get more use out of your investment. |
